A final word about shopping on the internet. The credit card companies make merchants (rather than customers, or themselves) responsible for credit card fraud on the internet. The credit card companies are responsible for fraud in "brick and mortar" stores. YOU are NEVER responsible.

If you see a fraudulent charge on your bill, and you report it, you are not responsible, ever. Even if you don't report it when you think your credit card has been stolen, you are NEVER responsible for more than $50. (You must generally question a bad charge on your bill within a certain time, usually sixty or ninety days of receiving the bill. It is possible to do this on the phone. To be extra safe, you might want to consider using a registered letter, but we have never heard of any problems just using the phone to question a charge.)

If you want to be extra safe, you might consider getting a second credit card for use on the internet. But this would ONLY be because you did not want the inconvenience of a problem with your main credit card. You will never be responsible - EVER - for credit card fraud. There are rules and laws protecting you.
