The Story of Miss You...
Better late then never, as they say!
You always wished I'd write you a song. Finally, I have.
It's called Miss You (Before You're Gone)
Remember that day you, me, M---, X---, and C--- were in someone's room, across from Ch Ch. First term, probably - well, first year, definitely.
The thing I remember more than anything else - one of the memories most indelibly seared into my soul - is something trivial, on the surface. That old Three Non-Blondes song came on the radio - and the three girls were jumping up and down with the music.
That moment represents the pinnacle of existence, as far as I'm concerned. The big bang banged, stars formed, lava cooled, worms evolved, civilisation - such as it's been thus far - blossomed. And there, in the most magic place on earth - a hop skip and a jump from where Alice in Wonderland was created - were we, people who...it's funny, I almost said "Never experienced any pain," but, y'know...Well, at such a joyous moment that all pain is pushed to the side - everything is new, different, and exciting - everything is innocent - No one's had a broken heart yet, that's for sure.
That will always be one of the most poignant memories - no, not memories - feelings, that endure, and never diminish or vanish - of my life.
This song, then, is about those few hours, in that room - seen through the cracked crystal of the imperfect world that followed, that none of us could have imagined. Sunsets can seem more beautiful through smog - the colours glow more intensely.
C--- got out his guitar, and started playing and singing.
But I didn't.
The other day, though, I did. Sort of.
I felt the feeling of that room so strongly - and calling it a memory is like calling the sun a light - or the earth a ball! - I was in that room, more than I wasn't - And I looked you in the eyes, and sang this song.
I sang it into my computer, and was so inspired that I thought I'd break the magic if I even stood up - so, for example, the "slide guitar" sound - that high-pitched slide - is me playing the guitar with a bic pen that was lying nearby. The entire song was recorded in 15 or 20 minutes, before I even stood up.
Before the spell was broken.
Before the magic was gone...
Again...
"Love" is a piddling and worthless sound compared to the bright, pure, innocent, undiminished, rapturous, all-encompassing wonderland we once lived in...long after you and I are nothing, the joy we experienced must and surely will live on, as that was the universe's peak, it's all downhill from here....
